StyroChem uses no chlorofluorohydrocarbons as blowing agents for its EPS

Shape molding expandable polystyrenes meet a broad range of specialty requirements

Energy absorption, low cost per volume, and formability make EPS a logical choice for protective packaging. Cushioning characteristics can be altered to absorb varying amounts of impact energy to accommodate a wide range of products - from heavy steel parts to fragile audio disks. Resistance to moisture is another advantage, thanks to the closed cell structure of EPS. This means additional product protection. Stable R retention values under conditions of moisture exposure are particularly important for the internal component applications of StyroChem's MB-590 expanded foam.

B-290 for use in general applications. This foam has the lowest density potential of any of our shape grades. It can be used in a wide range of applications and densities with very fast cycles, good expansion rates, and very little lumping or static.

B-210 for ice chest applications. This intermediate molecular weight resin offers excellent fusion and surface characteristics, resulting in an effective water barrier and receptive printing surface. It has good dimensional stability and energy-absorbing foam properties.

C-334 for superior protective packaging. Foams of this high-molecular-weight bead offer high compressive strength, good insulation properties, and dimensional stability plus superior surface appearance. End uses include energy-absorbing packages for medical testing kits, electronic shipping trays, spark plugs, and other shock-sensitive products.

C-240 for thick wall and shape molded applications. This material cycles fairly fast with good lower density potential. Good cycle times are achievable in both conventional and vacuum presses.

MB-590 for use in high density applications and component applications. (UL recognized component E93815) Intermediate-size beads are flame-retardant, provide superior dimensional stability, and still maintain fast cycle times. This modified shape grade material has good cycle times that are easy to obtain at densities exceeding 1.5 pcf. End uses include refrigeration components requiring insulation properties, and custom-molded building products.
