* Density potential is a function of utilities and expander capabilities; the above values represent optimum expansion conditions. § Contains an additive which quickly reduces the molecular weight of polystyrene at elevated temperatures. Recommended for applications in aluminum having fold defects and applications in iron having excessive lustrous carbon in castings. |
- Each of the above products is available in 1,000 pound boxes or 250 pound drums.
Advanced Casting Lost Foam Formulation
- StyroChem® developed 10 years ago an advanced casting formulation for Aluminum Lost Foam.
- StyroChem® products made from this formulation as T175 & T185 are able to reduce or eliminate fold defects caused by entrapped polystyrene.
- Studies done by GM (General Motors) showed that folds defects and fold area considerably decrease and disappear in certain conditions with patterns using advanced casting formulation compare to standard patterns.
- European automotive manufacturers also saw their total defects rates drop by more than half by using advanced casting formulation instead of standard lost foam EPS.
Lost Foam Advantages vs Traditional Casting
- Lost Foam Casting is particularly used for very complex casting. This process eliminates cores and parting lines.
- Lost Foam also improves accuracy in sizing, Casting walls can be curved or of variable thickness.
- Lost Foam casting is cost effective because it does not need as much machining as traditional casting.
